Nolvadex is a non-steroidal agent with potent anti-estrogenic properties. The active compound in Nolvadex (tamoxifen citrate) competes with estrogen binding sites in the body, reducing endogenous estrogen levels. Nolvadex is extremely useful in mitigating the effects of excess estrogen in the body, such as gynecomastia in males. It is commonly used in male patients undergoing treatment with androgens, as many androgens readily aromatize and therefore increase estrogen levels in the body.

Dosage and Administration

Nolvadex is for oral use only. The suggested dosage for Nolvadex varies depending on the age, sex, and diagnosis of the individual patient. Dosage is adjusted according to the patient's response and the appearance of adverse reactions. Some experts have advocated lower dosages initially, gradually increasing the dose with or without a decrease to maintenance levels. Other experts emphasize higher initial dosages and lower dosages for maintenance therapy. Typical dosage range for males is 10-40 mg per day.
